Modular Housing Competition

2021

Collaboration with Jaime Yin Ching Chan

Located in West Jakarta, Indonesia, Menara Kayu is a synthesis of the past, present and future. Taking inspiration from the traditional Indonesian wooden stilt house, "here, "stilts" lift modules above ground to address rising sea level that Jakarta is facing. With the changing International Building Code allowing taller mass timber buildings and future construction technology improvement, Menara Kayu imagines the potential of modular CLT Construction for high rise building to address increasing land scarcity caused by population growth and sea level rise in the metropolis.

With the significant structural and environmental benefits of mass timber, Menara Kayu visualizes how CLT modular housing units transform the skyline of Jakarta.
